Some things about web.lex

Marketers usually say:

Don’t talk about yourself – it does not interest to anyone!


It is true, but … There is always some “buts”…

The problem is you cannot promote anything without telling smoething about you or your product or your service. Right? This is why the question is: how to tell what is really needed, how to tell somethig about yourself, without telling about yourself. Is it really possible?

Yes! I will explain that later on but now I want to tell you something about web.lex


web.lex is growing quickly. Every month we welcome several new law offices who want to run their law blogs with us. How we market ourself? How I promote the web.lex’s services? Runnig my blogs. It is easy and simple. And … gives me so much fun 🙂

Yesterday I was conducting a business meeting with our new client – PLP Law Office. PLP is located in Kiev (Ukraine) and specializes in corporate law as well as debt collecting. As the lawyers are looking for international growth they decided to run law blogs with web.lex.

So, we had a very nice meeting yesterday. We were talking about law blogs and why they are so effective as a marketing tool for lawyers. I also explained Ukrainian Lawyers how law blogs work and what are the most important things every lawyer – a blog’s author – should know about a law blog.

The Law Blog tells a story

I am on a train now going quickly to one of the greatest cities in Europe – Cracow. As more and more law firms have law blogs, I travel a lot. It is very nice of course – I really love to be on a journey. Not only at work but also in my life.

While I am on board, I can do many things: write the next article, read a book, call my mum or my clients, even sleep. What is really amazing is that whatever I do during that time, my blogs work for me. They are read by my potential clients and thus it is possible to establish a relation between us. My blogs never sleep. Never feel bored or tired. They just work hard with my passion and with patience.

My blogs build my brand. They help me inform my clients about who I am, about my know-how, my knowledge and experience. 

The blogs speak to people with my style and my language. 

They talk about me not according to my schedule but when my readers want to hear me, wherever they are.

My blogs tell my story.


This is why by writing my blogs, I save my time.

The lenght of a law blog article

Sometimes a law blog post can be really short. And when I say that it can be very short, I mean exactly what I mean 🙂

In the previous post, at the very end of it, I mentioned my own experience. One day, a few years ago, I wrote a post which didn’t even have one sentence (!) but only its Title. YES! The Title and nothing more! Zero! No word!

I the Title a wrote:

You can have a blog beautiful like a picture or an effective blog – choose!

And I didn’t write a word.

Just the Title.

Why did I do so?

Just because I could! It’s simple. First of all, a Law Blog is not like an ordinary newspaper. When you write for a newspaper you have to be short and essential. It’s a rule that has to be taken into account. You cannot write as you can or want to. You have to accept that rule, otherwise you would not be allowed to write anything.

A Law Blog is a completely different medium. And you are its owner – you can do whatever you want. Always think out of the box!

Second? The Relation is the key. A few posts ago, I wrote about an article that is “reader-friendly” and not search-engine-friendly. For me, reader-friendly means that people should get to know you while reading your blog. They should get to know your personality and your character. It is a crucial factor in the creation of the Relation which you need in order to be successful (not only in business but in a private life as well).

This is why when you write as you really want, and not as the search engines force you to, you can gain something more valuable than the crowd on your Law Blog – the loyalty of your readers: prospects, clients and influencers.

The loyalty is a strong relation and this is really hard to create. What is more, it takes time. But time makes the best things on Earth. Always. And at the end of the day, you will have a crowd of people who really believe in you, in your words and in who you really are. Those are the best clients.


Do not be afraid! Write the way you really want to. Write in your own manner. Always.

 …. Getting back to my own experience of this really short „only-the-title-article”…

That article generated one of the longest discussions I have ever seen in my blogs. What was really interesting for me to observe, was that the commentators tried to find out what had happened. Why did I do so. They were really curious and their emotions were real. The first person wrote:

Raf, there is something wrong with your blog.

But the fifteenth comment expressed the reason:

Look, I suppose it’s Raf’s provocation.

After that, the readers followed the suggestion and at the end of the discussion, I wrote my own comment. I explained to them why I had written only the Title and not a word of an ordinary article. It was a very long answer.

What was the effect?

I show my readers who I am. That I am not as anyone else. I am a different, unique person. You can like me or not. You can love me or not. It’s your choice.

A Law Blog and Mr. Einstein

Last time, I wrote about how long an article in a Law Blog should be.

Conclusion was that it doesn’t matter how long it is. What matters is what you really want to write. Or, better, what you want to tell your readers! If you want to write a long article – then write one. On the other hand, if you want to write a short one – do it!

The rule is very simple.

You must know that I teach lawyers several times a month how to successfully run a Law Blog. I train them and explain to them how to do it effectively and with real passion. During those numerous courses, I have usually been telling my students that writing a blog post is like reading off Albert Einstein’s Relativity Theory.


Look: the Relativity Theory has one short and simple formula that is E=mc2. Just E=mc2.

Simple? Of course 🙂

Despite its simplicity and brevity, this formula has been influencing physicists for decades! The formula, in fact, doesn’t have to be longer and more complex to be more important, more impressive or just better. It can be so short and simple.


Law Blog articles can be similar to the formula of the Relativity Theory. It doesn’t have to be long and complex to be more important, more impressive, or better. It can really contain only ONE SENTENCE! That one sentence is sometimes enough.

Remember – ONE.


But … if you write only one sentence post after post it will be really difficult for your Law Blog to place itself at the top of search engine results. In order to win the game, you should create longer articles from time to time. OK? 🙂

Now, I can tell you one of my own experiences … One day I wrote an article in one of my blogs which had only its Title! Only the Title and nothing more! HAHA 🙂 Zero words! Really!

The effect was awesome… but I will tell you about that next time 🙂

There are many myths about Law Blogs among lawyers. One of them says:

An article in a Law Blog has to be long for the sake of SEO.

Is it true or false?

It is a fact that lawyers quite often ask me how long a single article should be. They are even afraid that running a blog takes too much time they don’t really have.


The answer is not simple. Or… the answer should rather be: it is neither true nor false – as lawyers usually like to say 🙂

So what is the truth?

It is a fact that blog articles that are “longer”, which means that they have about 400 – 500 words, are shown higher in search engine results than those of less words. If you are a person who prefers writing longer texts – your blog posts will probably have higher positions in search results.


Sometimes, it is worth writing shorter articles. Or really short ones.


If you don’t want to write long articles you DON’T have to write articles of 500 words or more! You can use only ONE word! If you want to – do it! Just do it! Such an article is not SEO-friendly, of course, but not every blog post should be SEO-friendly! Some of them have to be “reader-friendly”.

What do you mean Raf?

Well, I mean that your readers (namely prospects and clients and…influencers) should get to know you while reading your blog. They should get to know your personality and your character. These factors build emotions and eventually establish a relation that is really needed between you and the readers. This is why we sometimes write shorter articles – to show our readers who we really are.


Remember – the RELATION is the key. Writing long as well as mini articles, depending on your willingness at the time of writing, is the way to show your audience WHO YOU ARE. Not as a lawyer but as a real person.
